“In the weeds” is a dance for camera translation of Anna Peretz Rogovoy’s 2023 choreographic investigation into the native prairie flora of central Illinois, USA. Featuring a sweeping original score by John Toenjes and a deft, experimental edit by filmmaker Elliot Reza Emadian, the cinematic medium draws forward the parallels between what is plant and what is human. It illuminates the complexity of the natural/constructed binaries and boundaries of gender, dance, land, and humanity.
